Background
The Infrastructure and Application Division is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring the implementation of communications infrastructure projects to ensure equal and more economical access to communications services across the country.

To be a key player in the development of communications infrastructure in order to realise the 1Malaysia concept.

To create a policy environment that is strategic, responsive and innovative in promoting a dynamic and competitve communications industry.

To plan, coordinate, implement and monitor related policies and projects to ensure equal and more economical access for communications service across the country.
Functions & Roles
FUNCTION
To plan, coordinate, implement and monitor policies and programmes/projects to ensure facilities and service of communications applications and infrastructure that are more economical, high-tech and multi-technology with equal access throughout the country in order to make Malaysia a country based on k-economy
ROLES
- To implement the National Broadband Initiative, which covers aspects of supply, i.e. the provision of broadband for the general population with speed up to 2 Mbps, high speed broadband for use of more than 10 Mbps and upgrading of suburban fibre based broadband infrastructure that allows speed of up to 100 Mbps
- To implement programmes to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban areas through the Rural Internet Centre programme with provision of computers and the internet
- To promote use of broadband by society through local content via u-Pustaka (Ubiquitous Library) project, i.e. assimilation of knowledge that can be accessed anywhere and at any time
- To coordinate the implementation of broadband promotional activities with other departments/agencies including the MCMC, MAMPU and Broadcasting Department
- To monitor transition to IPv6 involving migration in the public sector which implements electronic government applications and preparedness of internet service providers to offer the IPv6
- To coordinate approval of MSC MalaysiaCybercity/Cybercentre status with MDeC
