Background
Following the restructuring of the Cabinet that was announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 2nd December 2022, the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia has be known as Ministry of Communications and Digital. Legal Advisor Office was established under the Ministry of Communications and Digital to undertake the task of advising the Ministry upon such legal matters.
Vision, Mission & Objectives
VISION
- To be a credible office in providing legal advice of the highest quality to the government in accordance with the Federal Constitution and laws of Malaysia
MISSION
To be an office which-
- recognised for its efficiency, professionalism and responsiveness in providing legal advice; and
- able to make informed decisions that take into account public interest, justice and continuous benefit to the country
Functions & Roles
- Provide legal advice concerning matters referred to it by any Divisions or Agencies under Ministry of Communications and Digital.
- Conduct research or studies on legal matters as and when required by the Ministry.
- Draft or vet legal documents such as legal notices, agreements and memorandum of understanding to which the Ministry is a party to ensure that the interest of the Government is protected.
- Draft or vet any Bills or subsidiary legislations consistent with policy decision made by the Ministry.
- Attend meetings upon the invitation of any Divisions or Agencies under Ministry of Communications and Digital, and to provide legal advice on matters discussed to ensure that any policy decision made by the Ministry is in accordance with the law.
- Represent the Government in civil cases involving the Government as a plaintiff.
- Conduct prosecutions.
